Statement
It is hard to believe that I have reached an age when I can even be considered to serve as an Alumni-Trustee. Somehow, it feels like something went wrong. It seems that graduation day was last week, and I am still trying to figure what I want to become when I grow up! Not a day goes by that I do not speak to at least one Clarkie. We are still friends after all these years.
In all seriousness, I am honored to have the opportunity to seek your support as a candidate for Trustee at Clark University. Over the past years, I have had the opportunity to see the value of a Clark degree, as it afforded me undreamed opportunities and continues to open doors for me, and for so many of our alumni. It is with true humility that I ask for your vote.
For the last 15 years, I have worked in education. I began by teaching at Doherty High School in Worcester. I pursued a graduate degree in education at the Harvard School of Education. (And I had a better time at Clark!) I taught American History and World History at Brookline High School. I became a Principal of The Academy of the Pacific Rim Charter Public High School in Boston. I am now working again at Facing History & Ourselves, continuing the work that I started at Clark, which is studying the fragility of democracy and exploring the moral and ethical dilemmas arising from the choices of ordinary citizens in the face of violence, anti-Semitism and racism.
As a recipient of financial aid and scholarships from the University, I am grateful that Clark University was, and continues to be, committed to diversity and was willing to help fulfill the dream of a college education for an immigrant student and his family 15 years ago. For that, all of us are forever grateful. Thank you!
