The Sayat Nova Armenian Dance Company of Boston performed at Clark's Daniels Theater in Atwood Hall on Sunday, Oct. 21. Forty men and women presented a mixture of dance, costume, music and emotion of the Armenian folk tradition. They performed 10 dances that symbolized the livelihood, aspirations, legends, celebration of life and appreciation of beauty which Armenians have cherished for centuries. Immediately following Arunod Trosh/Tzayn Door ov Feda, the Armenian patriotic dance, Sayat Nova paid tribute to the heroes of Sept. 11 with a slide show and the playing of the Star Spangled Banner.
This special event, sponsored by Clark's Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, celebrated the establishment of the Robert Aram and Marianne Kaloosdian and Stephen and Marian Mugar Endowed Chair of Armenian Genocide Studies. This new chair, established with a $1.2 million challenge gift from Carolyn Mugar and her late husband John O'Connor '78 (see story page 2), provides for a scholar dedicated to the study of modern Armenian history and the Armenian genocide. More information about the Kaloosdian/Mugar Chair will be included in the final Campaign Report.
