Message from the Director

Welcome to the International Development, Community, and Environment (IDCE) department at Clark University. Our mission is prepare individuals to address the greatest challenges of the 21st Century: environmental sustainability, social justice, and economic well-being.

IDCE's interdisciplinary graduate degree programs are built on more than 30 years of field experience in North America, Africa, Asia and Latin America. IDCE is a place of intellectual vigor and creative thinking, where students acquire the professional skills needed for addressing the complex problems of building community and managing resources on any scale.

Through classes, internships and collaborative research with faculty, students combine theory with practice, learn critical analytical skills, explore the linkages between local and global perspectives, create partnerships, and focus on both human and ecological dimensions of sustainability. IDCE graduates gain a working appreciation of how they can make significant contributions to a more sustainable future.

Ongoing research projects at Clark and IDCE have had direct impact on the local and global communities. IDCE's faculty and alumni are recognized leaders in their fields, including in urban and economic development, forced migration, risk analysis, environmental policy, geographic information sciences, community development, disaster management, anthropology, climate change, gender and power issues, and energy and environmental systems, among others.

IDCE offers four master's degree programs: International Development and Social Change, Community Development and Planning, Geographic Information Science for Development and Environment, and Environmental Science and Policy. Here you will find information about how to apply to one of these world class programs and read about our culturally diverse and dynamic community of faculty, students and alumni.

Join us in the pursuit of a more sustainable future.

Sincerely,

William F. Fisher
