Now, more than ever, Clark's momentum is propelled by the potent synergies between a demanding liberal arts program; a bustling urban setting in which students extend learning beyond the classroom; and a profound dedication to creating positive change in society.
With these synergies in mind we are moving forward on three ambitious goals. At the intersection of these goals lies Clark's greatest potential for meeting the complex challenges of the 21st century:
Effective practice. We seek to extend the advantages of liberal education by significantly enhancing the capacity of our students for effective action in the world. Imagine an undergraduate program that gives every student the opportunity to participate in a non-traditional academic experience—focusing on problems in health care or social entrepreneurship, for instance.
Transformative research. We are intent on heightening Clark's research profile in ways that enable our faculty to be deeply influential in finding solutions to enduring social challenges, whether around issues of education, health, the environment, or other concerns.
A force for change. We seek to build on the success of our local and global initiatives—such as the University Park Campus School and our long-standing involvement in international development—to demonstrate that universities and colleges must be a powerful force for positive change in their local communities and in the world.
I am confident that this moment will one day be viewed as a turning point in Clark's history. I invite you to learn more, and to partner with us in realizing Clark's ambitions.
